Before you buy

Wired or battery: everything else follows from that one choice. Wired doorbells have constant power, a faster wake-up and no ladder every few months.

Battery models install anywhere in minutes and then need recharging as often as your foot traffic demands, which on a busy street means weeks rather than months.

Wake-up lag is the specification nobody advertises and everybody notices. A doorbell that takes six seconds to bring up a live view has already missed the visitor. Check the field of view too, particularly the vertical figure, since head-to-toe coverage is what lets you see a package sitting on the step. Then price the subscription, because on most brands recording and person or package detection are plan features, and without one you get a live view and not much else.

Our guides compile manufacturer specifications, published testing and verified buyer reviews, with attention to chime compatibility and cold-weather battery behavior.
