Who We Are

Buying anything in 2026 means wading through ten thousand near-identical listings, paid placements, and five-star reviews of suspicious provenance. We do the wading.

What we publish

The library holds 91 full buying guides and 22 head-to-head comparisons, across 11 departments: Home & Kitchen, Beauty, Electronics, Smart Home, Gaming, Pets, Health & Wellness, Sports & Outdoors, Baby & Kids, Office and Gifts. Those departments hold 71 subcategories, and 68 of them have at least one guide — the three that don’t are recent gift categories we’re still filling.

Each guide follows the same structure, deliberately. Three top picks up front for readers who want a fast answer, a specification table to compare everything side by side, then a full write-up of every product covering what it does well, where it falls short, and an explicit get it if / skip it if verdict. Each one closes with a six-question FAQ. We’d rather tell you not to buy something than pad a list.

Who writes it

Guides are published under the BYB Editorial Team byline. We’re a small independent operation rather than a media group, and we don’t pretend otherwise. There’s no newsroom, no sponsored content desk, and nobody whose job depends on a particular brand being recommended.

What we are, and what we’re not

We’re a research and compilation publication. We read the published results, the specification sheets, the safety standards and the long-term owner reports, and we synthesize them into one straight answer. That’s useful work, and it’s what most buying decisions require.

We’re not a lab. We don’t have a soundproof room, a spectrophotometer or a fleet of review units, and we never claim to have used a product we haven’t. When you read a recommendation here, you’re reading the best available evidence assembled carefully, not a first-hand trial. Publications that do run labs are excellent, we lean on their work, and we name them when our conclusion depends on it.

How we’re funded

We’re reader-supported. When you buy through our links we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. That’s the entire business model, and it only works if the recommendations stay trustworthy — a reader who buys something we oversold doesn’t come back. Brands can’t buy placement, and commission rates never decide rankings.

We get things wrong sometimes, and prices move constantly. If you spot an error, email beforeyoubuyguide@gmail.com with a link to the guide and the specific claim.
