Privacy Policy

We collect almost nothing, we sell nothing, and everything we do collect is described here.

What we collect

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit) and Independent Analytics, a WordPress plugin that stores page-view counts on our own server, to understand which guides people read. Data is aggregated; IP anonymization is enabled; Independent Analytics rows older than 12 months are deleted.
  • Email address, only if you subscribe to our newsletter. Used solely to send it; unsubscribe with one click in any email. Addresses are stored with MailerLite, our email provider, for that purpose only, and deleted when you unsubscribe or on request.
  • Contact messages. If you email us, we keep the correspondence to reply to you.
  • Cookies. Used by analytics and by affiliate networks to attribute purchases (that’s how commissions work). Visitors in the EU and UK see a consent banner and can decline non-essential cookies before anything loads; wherever you are, your browser can block or clear cookies at any time. Affiliate-click counts. When you click a buy button, our own server records one aggregate count per day, per guide, per button type: no IP address, no cookie, no visitor ID. To stop abuse of that counter we keep a hashed version of the requesting IP address for ten minutes, then discard it. If you switch the site to light or dark mode, that choice is kept in your browser’s own local storage, not in a cookie, and never leaves your device.
What this meansWe can see which guides get read, not who you are. The affiliate cookie tells a retailer “this reader came from Before You Buy Guide” — it carries no name, no email, and no payment details.

What we never do

  • Sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for their marketing.
  • Collect payment information. Purchases happen on retailers’ sites under their privacy policies.

Third parties

When you click through to a retailer (e.g., Amazon), their privacy policy governs from that point. Affiliate networks may set attribution cookies as described above.
