Every recommendation on this site follows the same process. Here it is, in full.
Where our information comes from
- Published expert testing. Outlets that lab-test products — Consumer Reports, RTINGS, TechRadar, PC Gamer, and category specialists. When our conclusion leans on their testing, we link it.
- Manufacturer specifications, read skeptically. Spec sheets tell you what a company wants measured.
- Verified buyer reviews at scale. Patterns across thousands of owners — the failure at month six, the filter that costs more than advertised — that no single review reveals.
What we don’t do
- We don’t claim to have hand-tested products we haven’t. When we have hands-on experience, we say so explicitly; otherwise we’re honest that we’re synthesizing the best available evidence.
- We don’t accept payment for placement in a guide. Ever. Rankings can’t be bought.
- We don’t let commission rates pick products. Categories differ in what they pay us; a worse product never outranks a better one because it pays more.
Prices
Prices shown were checked on the date each guide was last updated and move constantly. The buttons in our guides pull the live listing — trust the retailer’s page, not our snapshot.
